Client Thoughts
Current and previous clients share their experiences at Grazing Fields

My daughter Nikki has been riding for a number of years and moved Grazing Fields recently and the decision has proven to be the ideal move for her. The care and attention that horses and riders receive is extraordinary. Horsemanship and sportsmanship are stressed. The Fletchers have created a culture where riders of all levels develop the skills and confidence necessary to reach their goals - and to have fun doing it. The excellent training and support, and the support of the other riders and their families, has been truly amazing. Under Kathy’s guidance, and that of the other trainers at Grazing Fields, my daughter is developing the skills and character necessary to reach her potential as a rider and is also learning life skills that will benefit her well beyond her riding pursuits.

I have been riding at GFF since 1998. I believe that one of GFF strengths is that they have dedicated and talented trainers that not only have helped me develop my skills as a rider, but also have helped me develop confidence in myself as a competitive rider. I witness this in other riders, too. There also exists a comraderie and support from all of the GFF clients: from kids, parents, juniors to adults. The adults are a very special (and large) group at GFF... we all share the passion of the horse and improving ourselves as equestrians. They are also some of my best friends and we have fun!

I moved to Grazing Fields Farm with my horse when I was starting to get competitive in the 3’6" equitation division. I lived about an hour away. Even though it was a longer drive to the farm, I was really happy to be a part of the atmosphere at Grazing Fields. I was very excited to have such a large farm to keep my horse on. The turn out and overall space the farm offered was such a rare luxury in the area.

Most importantly I was able to work with great trainers who taught me so much and helped me reach my goals, one of which was becoming a successful professional rider and trainer myself. In addition to learning so much I also made so many friends. There was always a great sense of team spirit. My favorite memory was winning the New England Equitation Junior Medal Final in 2005. Many other riders from Grazing Fields have won this particular final and I felt very fortunate and honored to have been able to add my name to the list. I wouldn’t trade the experiences that I had at Grazing Fields Farm or the knowledge that I gained for anything.

As a “mature” adult, re-entering the world of horses, I found that there had been a lot of changes since I used to ride. Saddles with blocks and half-chaps to name a few!

The staff at GFF helped me re-acclimate, taking my calls from the tack shop and offering advice on which blankets and bits to purchase. We searched and together found the right equine partner that I hope is my forever horse. The instructors are fantastic – each one with their own technique and style which, while different, all complement each other to insure that each student makes steady progress towards achieving their goals. For some, it is just to eventually get back in the show ring while for others to qualify for local or national finals. Having a full time job, the opportunity to head to the barn after work for a stress-free evening of riding, grooming and just hanging with my horse is priceless. In addition, we have a terrific group of adults at GFF – welcoming, friendly and incredibly supportive. We have organized adult night lessons, with group instruction and dinner afterwards and we travel together to horse shows and support each other through every up and down that is a part of competing.

Kathy Fletcher runs an outstanding program that won’t break your budget. The facilities and turnout are the best that you will find anywhere and horse shows are regularly held on the premises, including two weeks of A rated shows in the summer. Those of us who truly love horses never lose our passion no matter how “mature” we become. If you have taken a break from riding to raise a family and/or start a career, I cannot imagine a better place to “get back in the saddle” then Grazing Fields Farm.

Why would anyone travel 120 miles each way to take a lesson or practice? It wasn't just the facilities - or just the staff - it was being part of a equestrian "family" that cared not just about individual accomplishments, but supporting and helping each other. More importantly it was about teaching our daughter the individual "life skills", and how to apply them after her junior equestrian days were over! (Please don't misinterpret what we're saying - there were local, regional, and national championships - even a junior olympic gold medal !!!) But the discipline, sacrifice, and time management skills learned at GFF have carried over into her academic pursuits and will provide a strong foundation for her future.

I have ridden with Grazing Fields since late 2002. There are so many things about GFF that appeal to me! They have a talented and helpful group of trainers. Each brings a different perspective to my riding while still maintaining a unified and organized training program designed to maximize the skills of me and my horse. They also excel at preparing riders for the show ring and with them I've accomplished things I'd never even dreamed of in the competitive arena! The facility is well managed and my horses are always happy and beautifully cared for. I especially love that the horses get the benefit of spacious turnout (which is not available at many show barns). Above all, I've made lasting friendships with my trainers and fellow riders. I look forward to every visit to the barn!
