Lessons & Programs

Riding Instruction at Grazing Fields

Beginner lessons
Include lessons on any of the School Horses or Ponies, and include mounted instruction in basic riding skills at the walk, trot, and canter as well as an introduction to jumping.
Grooming and tacking up skills are also incorporated as part of the lessons.
All of our School mounts have been selected for their exceptionally good manners, smooth gaits, and forgiving temperaments which make them appropriate for novice riders. These horses and ponies are also appropriate for any students wishing to compete at our “Cranberry Circuit” schooling shows. Young riders at this level may also wish to sign up for the Summer Horsemanship Program.
$45.00, 1/2 hour private instruction

Advanced lessons
Once a student can groom and tack up independently, is beginning to jump courses, and has been approved by their instructor for mounting and warming up with minimal supervision, they may be ready for Advanced lessons.
These lessons are more demanding of both horse and rider, incorporate more advanced training on the flat, and continue the rider’s education in jumping. Advanced lessons allow riders to develop more technical skills, and prepare for Rated show competition.

$60.00, 1/2 hour private instruction

GFF Show Horse Lessons
While still safe and well mannered, these are more athletic, finely tuned horses requiring a broader base of riding experience and ability. These lessons are quite demanding of both horse and rider, and riders will continue to expand the technical skills necessary for competitive showing and jumping. The increased fees for these lessons reflect the additional cost of purchasing and maintaining these horses. These horses are appropriate for riders ready to compete at the USEF Rated shows held at GFF, and are often available to lease for these shows.

$75.00, 1/2 hour private instruction

Group lessons
At all levels, group lessons may be scheduled at the trainers’ discretion. The lesson fee remains the same, but lesson times will be expanded to 45-60 minutes.

Independent riding
Riders taking Advanced or Show Horse lessons may wish to supplement their lessons with independent riding. Depending on the horses’ schedules, independent rides, or “hacks”, may be scheduled during the week. Riders should ask their instructors about scheduling hacks.

$25.00 per hack
